Registration for the 15th annual Painting competition

We are delighted to announce this year’s edition of the "Painting - VÚB Foundation Award for painting for young artists" competition, which was established in 2006.

We are proud that over the event’s 15 years, it has become one of the most popular platforms to showcase and promote professional painters in Slovakia. Twenty finalists will be selected, from which an independent international jury will announce the three young artist winners in the autumn.

The list with 20 finalists will be published on 7.8.2020.

And this year we’re providing additional financial assistance to the young painters’ community as a special award – by so doing, we’re aiming to help artists through this current challenging period.

The Painting competition gives talented young artists the opportunity to showcase their stunning artwork to experienced experts. Over the last 14 years, the VÚB Foundation has distributed a stunning EUR 280,000 among 37 fortunate painters. The competition has played a key role in boosting the profile of artists such as Erik Šille, Ján Vasilko, Andrej Dúbravský, Monika Pascoa Mikyšková and Žofia Dubová.

The Painting competition is aimed at professional painters under 35 years of age. Artists can submit a competition application at https://malbaroka.sk/prihlasenie/, and also send artwork samples in electronic form with a confirmation of parameters. Applications must be received by 15 June 2020.

An international jury - to be announced in the summer - comprising leading European visual artists, theorists, curators, gallerists, and pedagogues will guarantee a professional and independent decision. Assessment of submitted artwork will have two stages: the selection of 20 finalists from all submissions, and then three overall winners chosen in the second round. Winners will be announced and awarded a total of EUR 20,000 in October.

And the general public with an eye for art can check out the twenty finalists’ creative submissions for free at Bratislava’s Nedbalka Gallery.

Just what this support means to young artists is well illustrated by an interview with Lucia Oleňová, a winning artist from last year’s Painting competition. Read more in the VÚB Foundation’s online magazine https://srdcovky.nadaciaVÚB.sk/.
