These 20 young painters are the finalists of the Maľba 2022 competition

The announcement of the results will take place on 27.10.2022 at 18:00 in the Nedbalka Gallery

This year, 109 young painters submitted their previews, with as many as 40 new names among them. The expert jury has compiled a final twenty, in which there are eight "newcomers". The trio of winning authors will be announced in October. The VÚB Foundation will support them in their further work with a total amount of 20 thousand euros and, at the same time, make the twenty best paintings available to public. The exhibition will be free to view for all fans of contemporary art.

The current 17th edition of Maľba – VÚB Foundation Award for Young Artists, which sets as its long-term goal to open doors to emerging creators and popularize modern fine art among the public, has its 20 finalists. While twelve of the twenty contestants have already reached the final line-up during the previous years of Maľba, thus once again confirming their consistent progress, eight artists from the current list represent new hopes for Slovak painting. They have the opportunity to present their art through this prestigious platform for the first time.

All registered applicants and their works have passed the evaluation of an international expert jury, which operates in the original number of four members again. This year, the final twenty, as well as the winners themselves, are selected by Hungarian art historian and curator Mónika Zsikla, visual artist and pedagogue from the Czech Republic Marek Meduna, and renowned Italian gallerist Vincenzo Della Corte. For Slovakia, the team of judges and jurors is concluded by curator and art historian Katarína Bajcurová.

The competition continues in autumn
After assessing the originals of the works of the twenty finalists, the jury will determine the three winners in October. They, together with invaluable references for their professional career, will receive financial rewards of 3,500, 6,500 and 10,000 euros. The best young painters of the year will be announced during the opening of the final works in Bratislava's Nedbalka Gallery. The VÚB Foundation will then make the twenty paintings accessible for all. The public exhibition will run from October 28 to November 27.
