We announce the 13th annual Maľba

The VUB Foundation has launched a call for entries to the 13th annual Maľba (Painting) competition. Once again, an international jury will select 20 young Slovak painters as finalists and award a cash prize of EUR 20,000 to the 3 best entries. Enter using the online form from 16 April to 17 June 2018.

The Maľba (Painting) competition has already established a stable position in the Slovak arts scene as a system for supporting professional painters under the age of 35 years. In the competition’s 12 years of existence, the VUB Foundation has awarded cash prizes to 33 young painters and presented their work to the public through 18 free exhibitions not only in Slovakia but also in Italy. Over the course of the competition’s history, the organisers have received just under 1,100 entries and last year’s competition received the largest number of entries.

The quality and independence of the judging of entries is guaranteed by the fact that each year’s jury is made up of leading European visual artists, theoreticians, curators, gallery operators and respected teachers. The jury reviews all the entries and chooses a shortlist of 20 works for the three prizes, which are awarded at a later meeting of the jury. The best paintings will receive a cash award:
1st place – EUR 10,000
2nd place – EUR 6,500
3rd place – EUR 3,500

The 2018 edition of the Maľba (Painting) competition is open to professional artists under the age of 35 years who work in paint. It is also open to artists who have graduated from higher education in the visual arts with at least a bachelor’s degree.

This autumn, as in previous years, the VUB Foundation will present this year’s 20 finalists in the Nedbalka Gallery in Bratislava.
